The wedding season is in full swing. I had the below wedding on a Thursday in San Diego, a wedding in Santa Maria on Saturday and a small wedding in Pismo Beach on Sunday.  Because of this I am having to work overtime to get all the weddings processed…while at the same time not rush it – since quality is of the utmost importance.  However, I am forced to keep my blog postings a little briefer than usual – if I can find time to make them at all.

It was only a few months ago I had the opportunity to shoot Ruben and Amber’s engagement session. I traveled to San Diego for their wedding knowing that I had two new friends and that it would be easy for us all to feel comfortable with each other as their wedding day unfolded.

The “first” ceremony was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lakeside near San Diego.

I met the guys at Point Loma Nazarene College.  What a gorgeous campus.  It was a bit busy there and with 13 guys space was at a premium.  Ruben and the guys were a bunch of fun.   Amber opted to not have any pics of her and the girls. It’s the one thing that I’ve learned and embraced about “today’s” wedding photography.  There are no hard and fast rules.  It’s not about: “this is how it is supposed to be done” or “this is how it has to be done”.   Everyone has individual ideas as to what they want and what they value.  It’s my job and privilege to accommodate those desires.  The photography is for them not me.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lakeside –  is very beautiful./  I am stoked to have a full frame camera and an ultra wide angle lens as well as wide angle fish eye lens to be able to capture it. Not all photographers have this equipment.  When it comes to cameras and lenses I make it my goal to have the best cutting edge equipment available.  The two images below were taken at a full 21 megapixels.  This allows the photo to be printed at a very large size if desired.

I love little moments like this of the couple interacting durning a ceremony – just pure, authentic and sweet!

At one point in the ceremony Ruben and Amber stood in the natural light streaming through one of the stained glass windows.  This allowed me to dial in my exposure just for them them allowing the rest of the church to go dark with the exception of the beautiful stained glass windows.   I thought it added a nice variety and a unique effect.

After the small more intimate church ceremony Ruben and Amber headed to the Mission Beach for another larger ceremony.  This shot was taken after the ceremony of course – when everyone else had left.

It’s always nice if you have a hot rod to use in your wedding pics!

Ruben and Amber it has been great getting to know you, shoot your engagement pics, grub’n together and to be and shoot  both of your wedding ceremonies!   I feel like I have two new awesome friends and I hope you consider me one too!  All of God’s best to both of you!    ~ Trent

It was an absolute great time to be the wedding photographer for Jose and Brenda at The Carmel Mission Basilica, Monterey, California. Jose and Brenda are just such down to earth, humble and kind people!  They were really a lot of fun and they really know how to throw a party/reception – to say the least!     The  Carmel Mission Basilica is a beautiful place and has so many neat features inside and out.  Inside the Basilica the ceilings and front altar area are just – WOW!  The outside of the building has such a beautiful  architecture that takes you back to 1771.  The texture of the exterior is amazing and the courtyard, flower beds and statues grab your interest.

To start things off though we have to go back to Jose and Brenda’s engagement session which we did in San Luis Obispo. I wish I could share my top 30 favs, but this one will have to do. It’s my favorite and I think it just captures something timeless as well as the joy that Jose and Brenda have together as a couple. It makes me smile ever time I see it.

Jose and Brenda did a little song and dance for the audience where Jose assumed the role of home maker, cleaner, house husband etc. and Brenda took the role of demanding wife. It was quite comical and  fun.   I had never seen this particular comedy at any of the weddings I have had the honor of photographing.  As a wedding photographer it was just “gravy”!

Cowboy hat flung to the side, sad face resting on his arms and two little pretend bottles laying on their sides…this little guy is set to be a star in a country song!  Whatever the case I’ll be glad to have him star in my wedding photography anytime.  What a character!

As fun as these two shots (and many more) were…I had to really hold my breath every time Jose was launched into the air!   These are memories for Jose and Brenda that they will have forever!

Monterey is such a beautiful area to get married in.  It’s a lot of fun to be a Monterey Wedding Photographer as well.

Jose and Brenda it has been great serving you.  To you and all your family – all the best and may your lives be full of joy and blessings. Congratulations!!   Stay in touch please!

Joel and Rhonda’s Wedding took place at the popular and beautiful Shore Cliff Lodge in Pismo Beach. The Shore Cliff Lodge is one of the most popular wedding venues in the Pismo Beach – Shell Beach area.  The ceremony site sits on a cliff overlooking the vast and beautiful beach below.  Another great thing about the Shore Cliff Lodge is the fact that the Pelican Point Restaurant – reception site, which is part of the Shore Cliff Lodge, is just a few hundred yards away. Additionally, the Pelican Point  has a great balcony that goes around one side of it – so when the Sun begins to set –  you’re just a few steps away from being photographed with an amazing sunset. As a wedding photographer you couldn’t ask for much more.  It’s venues like the Shore Cliff Lodge that make being a San Luis Obispo wedding photographer really fantastic.

Getting back to Joel and Rhonda  –  they were a great couple to have the privilege of photographing their wedding.  As you can see they are quite attractive and were a lot of fun.  We did their engagement photographs in the Malibu quite some time before their wedding.  See the full post for their engagement session here – or just scroll down a bit.    Here’s one of my many favs.

I like to get to every wedding much earlier than we have scheduled.  This allows me time to get detail shots of your wedding.   I really enjoy it and most clients do as well.  This is one more reason that all of my packages come with unlimited hours. To me, once I’ve been contracted by you – it’s not about money or the number of hours I have to put in. It is about doing my very best for you – capturing and telling the whole of your wedding day  love story.

You never know what you might find or see on each and every wedding. This is one thing that makes being a San Luis Obispo photographer so exciting!  Here a amid some vibrant flowers a couple of bees take care of their business giving no regard for Joel and Rhonda’s most special day!

The amazing and beautiful flowers and centerpieces were done by Jenny McNiece Flowers. Jenny is one of the absolute best in the business with her spectacular floral arrangements combined with her sweet and caring personality. Every bride I’ve photographed – that has had Jenny as her florist says the same thing: “Jenny is amazing…Jenny is so nice..Jenny is the best..etc, etc. etc!!” Every time I see one of Jenny’s creations I am amazed since every time she is able to do something to make it not only stunning, but unique from any of the previous creations I have witnessed. If you are looking for a florist, be sure to consider Jenny McNiece Flowers. She truly is one of, if not thee very best.

Children are always one of my favorites to photograph. It seems every wedding brings with it – the most beautiful children in the world!

Here – I caught a moment with the bride looking into the mirror – just before here wedding. Surely the happy look on her face tells the story of her heart – and what a joyous day it is for her to be wed to her groom!

This girl’s big brown eyes, endearing smile and inquisitive look stole my heart.

One thing I ALWAYS recommend is to have colorful flowers.   while white flowers are beautiful – if the bride is wearing a white wedding dress – they don’t give quite the “pop” that colorful ones do.  Joel and Rhonda’s selection are one of my favorites.

If you can’t tell…it was quite a “breezy”  wedding day!   In fact so much so that Rhonda’s dad had to hold her secure to give him the confidence of mind that his beautiful daughter wouldn’t fly away as they make their way down the wedding aisle!

One of the great benefits of having a second photographer for your wedding (especially the ceremony) is that two separate angles can be covered. So while I am able to get the bride descending down the aisle, my second shooter is able to get here from the back and or from the side.   I can also use a remote camera set on a tripod and fired wirelessly if conditions permit.

Just as the bride and her father stop at the front of the ceremony site, I catch a quick glance from the bride.  The expression of her and her father are both priceless.

A specialized “fish eye” lens enables me to capture the whole of the audience, the bride and groom, bridal party and good deal of the landscape.

Another thing I always try to do as a wedding photographer is capture special moments and looks of those close to the bride and groom.  A top that list is the expressions of immediate family during the wedding. Here both sets of parents are captured with lots of emotion.

Incase you are wondering  – the answer is yes!  The groomsman really does have a real/permanent tattoo of a mustache on his finger…which enables him to temporarily have a mustache on his face when desired!

It’s expressions like these (below) that make my job more than worthwhile!!!

Thanks Joel and Rhonda for giving me the privlege to be your wedding photographer.   I hope your marriage is filled with peace, giving and love!

It’s a small world! Paul was the best man for Ness, a groom whose wedding I photographed earlier this year (Jess and Ness). They were kind enough to give me a great recommendation. Added to that, it just so happens that Paul’s mother knew peeps from another wedding I shot earlier this year (Brenda and Jose) in Monterey. They too recommended me. (Thank you!) Regardless it was great to shoot Paul and Trina’s engagement. We were a little concerned about it being too cold, especially in Morro Bay where we had planned the session. However, it turned out to be a beautiful day and only as the sun set did it get a little nippy. Both Paul and Trina were very laid back and open to trying any of my suggestions. Before the engagement session I had asked Trina how they felt about jumping barb wire. I got a kick out of the fact that Trina said it was “their specialty” and they were game. We hit a number of new spots I had been scoping out and one that I’ve used before. Morro Bay is just one of the many places here on the Central Coast that is ripe with so many great photography spots. Just one more reason being a wedding photographer in the San Luis Obispo area is awesome! Thanks for the great shoot Paul and Trina! In no time it will be time for your wedding!

Here’s a very small sampling from the pictures.
